I was chatting with one of my close friends last night and she mentioned how unhappy she is at her job. Seeing as she’s been with the same company for almost 10 years, the news came as quite a surprise. When I asked her what she disliked about the position, she told me it wasn’t so much the job itself – and she really likes the group of people she works with – but rather the dull office environment that is so commonly found in corporate America.
As a very visual person, I completely understand this response, as I’m very affected by my environment. If my work space isn’t tidy and nicely decorated, my productivity definitely takes a hit. Free People’s corporate office is a wonderful example of providing employees with an inspirational space that reflects the company’s brand to a T. And while all companies may not be able to afford to set up shop in an old Philadelphia naval yard, doing away with those awful upholstered cubicles and berber carpets is a good start!
