Either they wear neutrals all the time and think they don’t like color, or adore color and simply can’t decide on what hues to include. And while an all neutral home can be beautiful, it’s not an easy balance to achieve – and in my opinion is often not suited for the majority of people.

Abby Larson of Style Me Pretty previously listed herself in the above mentioned category, until she called upon Lauren and Susan McGrath to design this gorgeous, quintessential New England home. What I love most about the abode is that the “investment pieces” were done in neutral shades, while color was added in small pops with accessories. In turn the heftier price-tag items will be around for the long-run – whereas pillows, the trim on the window treatments, books, the tablecloth in the entry and even the upholstery on the dining chairs can be easily swapped out for a different color palette!

Are you a fan of including color in your home?

  1. I am kind of the opposite–lots of color! Although I am not as bold as Bailey McCarthy, of Peppermint Bliss, I definitely love using it! I have begun to temper my love of colors with more neutral touches, and I think buying the investment pieces in neutral colors definitely makes the most sense. Most of the colors in our house comes through the rugs and throw pillows. I find that patterned colorful rugs help jazz it up too (and they hide messes well!) Such a beautiful home!

  2. I’ve been looking for more color lately. As we are starting to put our home together, everything is just seeming so bland. I love how the use of color above isn’t overpowering, but it’s just enough. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  3. I have just adored these images ever since I saw them on the Domino website a few weeks back. I am usually all about color on color, but this house reminded me that I can maybe bring it down a notch but still have a beautiful and bright home! We are redoing many of the rooms in our house right now, and for my bedroom my biggest inspiration is the shot of the bedroom from this house! I love the soft colors and how light and relaxing the room seems!
