When Fall arrives with its crisp cool air, I like to transition out our light-weight accessories, in favor of velvethandknit pillows, warm heavy throws, gorgeous dried flowers & bunches of wheat and a few other trimmings. I don’t go overboard – I still want our house to look like our house! – but find adding a few tasteful accessories sets a nice cozy tone for the season!

Do you like to add a few nice cozy touches to your home around this time of year?

I tend to be a bit of a neat freak, always tidying up, making sure everything is in its “place”. But after spending the better half of last night sorting through Kara’s portfolio, it really made me appreciate how perfect subtle little imperfections can be!

Apologies for the radio silence this past week, I hadn’t intended on taking such a long hiatus! I must admit, unplugging for a bit was just what I needed! I feel refreshed, inspired and ready to get started on a few new exciting projects! I headed out East last weekend for some much needed time with a few of my girlfriends. We lounged on the beach by day, enjoyed some spectacular sunsets, hit up some of our favorite restaurants and usually finished things off with a little nightcap at The Surf Lodge. Of course, in traditional girltime form, we made sure to support the local economy, hitting up all our favorite boutiques – Serena & Lily is never to be missed, I just adore their new floor set!

Billy was supposed to arrive upon my friends departure on Wednesday. But with Hurricane Arthur’s path threatening to hit the East-coast, and with our own home so close to the water, we decided it was best I head back home. Like many of you fellow East-coasters, I was totally bummed the storm was ruining our 4th of July plans. Luckily the potential hurricane took it easy on us this time around, humbly resulting in only one day of rain! Seeing as both of us had already taken the time off work, we created a little staycation for ourselves – lounging by the pool, indulging in lots of alfresco dining, nightly walks on the beach to admire the fireworks and we found two new favorite spots for dinner and drinks. I must admit, I never really considered taking a staycation before this one unexpectedly happened upon us, but Billy and I both enjoyed it so much we plan on making an annual “trip” of it!

I hope you all had a fabulous week, I’m so looking forward to catching up!

Isn’t it funny how one particular hue can inspire you? Right now ice cream parlor tones by way of dusty pinks and mint greens are really intriguing me! So much so, I spent 2+ hours last night in search of more inspiration, down the rabbit hole and along a windy road – otherwise known as Pinterest. Funny thing is, pastels aren’t typically my thing, as I usually gravitate towards more jewel-tone shades. Maybe it’s that the weather has finally warmed up and everyone seems to have a slight glow from a little dose of much needed Vitamin D, making the shades so complimentary?! I think that caftan may need to make way into my closet!

Decorating With Greens

Big bowls of fruit and veggies are another option, but lately I’ve been really into filling a few vases with fresh cut greens. Nothing fancy – filler from the grocery store, clippings off a house plant or plucked from your garden – they’re a perfect way to add a little texture and pop of color in such a natural way!

Happy Friday! I must say this week has been a long one! I’m so ready to relax, have a little romantic dinner date with Billy, go for a good run or two, some possible thrifting and brunch with my girlfriends! What are your plans?

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.

Spring-Inspired-Floral-Pillows-DiCorcia-Interior-Design-NY-NJ1, 2, 3, 45, 6, 7, 8

Can you believe Spring is less than 30 days away?! I don’t know about you, but I’m beyond excited to see this snowy cold weather say sianara and welcome back my garden perennials! When Spring arrives, I like to transition out our faux-fur throws and velvet pillows in favor of lighter weight options.

Pillows in general are a quick and relatively inexpensive way to update any room. Of course florals always come to my mind when Spring rolls around (Miranda Priestly would be thrilled, I’m sure), and these are a few I just can’t stop thinking about.

How do you update your home for Spring?

The Magic of White Walls

The hue is so very often overlooked as being plain or boring, but in my opinion it is the perfect backdrop to allow bright colors, textiles, textures, accessories and art to take center stage. This Texas bungalow is a perfect example of the magic of white walls, which can be found throughout the entire home. The overall result is feminine, sophisticated, layered, vibrant and certainly far from boring!

When I design a room, paint is almost always one of the last pieces of the puzzle, as it’s all of these other items that dictate the color scheme. What’s your preference when it comes to paint? Do you prefer bright-colored walls, or more muted tones?

Look For Less • Fresh Blooms

This past weekend I picked these hydrangea from my garden to place on the coffee table in our living room. Much to my dismay, it looks like they may be the last of the season with nighttime temps dropping into the 20°’s; so farm stand and supermarket bunches will have to take their place over the next few months.

However, one bunch usually only accommodates having flowers in one room, and ideally I would love to have arrangements in every room of our home (which is sadly not in my budget)! I do dry a few bunches of hydrangea and eucalyptus, which turn beautiful shades of pastel, but sometimes I want a big burst of color (surprise, surprise!).

BLOG_Tory_ToryOnHome_1021-Home-Collection_480_slide7When I saw Tory Burch’s new home collection, I was instantly smitten with the image above! Sure the inlaid bone box is beautiful, but the paper flowers is what really grabbed my attention. A simple, affordable, long-lasting arrangement – way more chic than you’re local craft store variety!

Are you a fan of having fresh flowers in your home? If so, what are your thoughts on the paper variety?

Tory Burch’s New Home Collection

Tory-Burch-Home-Collection-via-DICorcia-Interior-Design-NY-NJTory Burch launched a home collection this week, adding yet another branch to the ever-growing TB brand (remember when she just did flats?). Folk art needlepoint pillows, handmade boxes and a brass nutcracker are a few items that caught my eye; but overall I was most taken with the styling in what appears to be the designer’s iconic home!

Tory-Burch-Home-Collection-via-DiCorcia-Interior-Design-NY-NJTory-Burch-Home-Collection-via-DICorcia-Interior-Design-NY-NJTory-Burch-Home-Collection-via-DICorcia-Interior-Design-NY-NJBLOG_Tory_ToryOnHome_1021-Home-Collection_480_slide5BLOG_Tory_ToryOnHome_1021-Home-Collection_480_slide6

Have you checked out the new collection yet? What was your take on the price point? I think some items were priced accordingly, like the handmade needlepoint pillows (can’t imagine how long those babies take to make!); whereas other items – like the $395 ice bucket – seemed rather ridiculous!
