I picked up this navy striped tank at the J.Crew outlet this weekend and have been wearing it non-stop (btw – I finally had the chance to try on this skirt that I mentioned here and it was just ok, the No. 2 has much better fabric retention)! Right now I’m pairing it with distressed denim (on sale!) and my go-to schoolboy blazer for an edgy meets preppy look, but I can’t wait to pair stripes-on-stripes with this skirt I mentioned last week when the weather warms up a bit more! I also finally found the perfect navy nail polish this weekend after a year of searching – not too dark that it looks like black and no sparkle/shimmer. I’ve talked about my love of navy before, and as you can see from the design of my site I love pairing the hue with pink, but lately I’ve had a particular fondness for combining it with shades of orange. This stack of Loren Hope bracelets (1,2,3), DVF pom-pom scarf and Zara pumps would live together in my closet happily ever after! A leopard clutch and tortoise glasses give off just a slight shade of orange to complete the look without appearing too match-matchy.
What color combinations are you currently craving?
Highs in the 70’s and 80’s this week have me pulling out my warm weather cloths – particularly the brights and pastels! I’ve had my eye on J.Crew’s Daisy Lace mini for some time, and drinks with friends may be the perfect reason to pull the trigger. I would pair it with a simple chambray shirt, two-tone heels, a bohemian fringe bag and these splurge-worthy Dannijo Eddie earrings.
What are you coveting for warmer weather?
J. Crew’s No. 2 Pencil Skirt is one of my go-to’s for client meetings. It immediately pulls off a polished professional look, fits perfectly and holds its shape throughout the day – it drives me crazy when bottoms stretch out after a 10 minute cab ride! I have the skirt in several colors in both the double-serge wool and cotton, always keeping my eye out for when they go on sale (the wool version is on sale now!). I was pleasantly surprised to find this more slightly affordable version in a fun ikat print on J. Crew’s Factory website. I am going to pop into the store this weekend and check out if the quality lives up to its counterpart. Will report back!

I’ve been on the hunt for more casual attire as of late and fell in love with this Splendid Stripe Maxi Skirt when perusing Piperlime last night. There was something familiar about the skirt, somewhat of a déjà vu moment, but I couldn’t put by thumb on it. I went to bed dreaming of watercolor pleats and when I woke up this morning I had my answer – the skirt would be best friends with J.Crew’s Fan Fringe Necklace (weird dreams, I know!). Maxi skirts with pleats tend to make my waist look bigger than it is, so I always like to pair them with a thicker belt to slim down the extra fabric (I usually steel Billy’s, but this one is very similar). I would pair up the look with a simple denim jacket from Target, these comfy Rag & Bone Harrow Boots (cheaper option here via), and my new favorite purchase – Anthropologie’s Seamless Tank. One of my friends recently introduced me to the tanks, and at first glance I thought $24 was a bit pricey for a basic, until she pointed out they are reversible – scoop neck on one side, v-neck on the other – genius! And of course what would a casual weekend outfit be without an amazing pair of tortoise shades, and a big chic handbag to accompany me on my errands!
As far as I know I have exactly 0% Irish heritage, but am thrilled to partake in any holiday that involves eating, dancing and green beer! Emerald green is one of my long-standing favorite colors in both fashion and interiors, and since Pantone named it 2013’s Color of the Year it’s become more readily available in the mass market, which makes me very happy! I’m having a particular love affair pairing emerald with mint, and think this ensemble would be quite festive for this Sunday’s brunch. I’ve been dying to try out the half moon manicure trend using this tutorial, and think OPI’s Jade Is The New Black and Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos would pair perfectly with my get-up, but am a bit apprehensive due to my subpar polishing skills. Have any of you tried it? Was it really difficult?

Lately I’ve had an odd fascination with teepees (odd, I know!). Last night I tried to convince Billy we should build one in our backyard next to the pool – a bohemian esque pool house – in lieu of the very manly bar/shed that is currently under construction. He looked at me like I had three heads, mumbled something about resale and walked away. 🙁
So I relocated my vision inside, and am contemplating placement and use.
Imagine how much fun kids (and aunts) would have playing make-believe in one of these?! Essentially the city kid’s version of a tree fort! However, since we don’t have human children I think a fur-baby teepee is in order!

Some off-the-shelf options (the “Girls Only” sign cracks me up!). But I think my fur-baby teepee will be a custom job.

I have a love/hate relationship with fashion this time of year – I love the new Spring attire coming to market and hate that it’s entirely too cold to wear them! I think this outfit would quench my thirst quite nicely.
Madewell’s Crossweave-Sleeve Trench would transition perfectly into Spring, layering under a winter coat now and as a coat when the weather warms up. I bought my first pair of J Brand 811 Mid Rise Skinnies this past fall and live in them. They fit like a glove and don’t stretch out every time I wear them (which was surprisingly difficult to find). I’m exercising a lot of self-control not picking up a second pair in Salem during Shopbop’s sale that is underway, in addition to Karen Walker’s Number One Sunglasses and Equipment’s Francis Sleeveless Top. I have been fantasizing over Meli Melo’s Thela bag after Lindsay posted about it last week. My birthday is coming up and this is on the top of my wish list! Kate Spade’s Lady Marmalade Ball Earrings and J.Crew’s Calf Hair Pumps would perfectly polish off my look. What are you coveting for Spring?
